Enoch Crosby (1750–1835) was an American soldier and spy during the Revolutionary War. Some speculation that his life may have been the basis for the character Harvey Birch in James Fenimore Cooper's novel The Spy.
He became an apprentice shoemaker until 1771. Within the first weeks of the Revolutionary War, he enlisted. Numerous times he was captured and escaped and was able to provide intelligence to John Jay and even the Commander of the Continental Army, George Washington.
After the war, Enoch Crosby and his brother purchased this farm, where he remained until he died.
